COURSE RECORD DEMOLISHED
This weekend Kate threw out all ideas of racing her competitors and pushed herself to her limit. Kate ran 12:40 for 2 miles. Kate is by far one of the hardest working athletes on the team, but she is also a dual sport athlete meaning she isn’t always able to practice and compete with the XC team. Kate doesn’t allow this to hold her back from training and getting better. She’ll do workouts on her own and is always itching get in a run with her teammates. Kate raced for the first time this season and ended up breaking a course record by 37 SECONDS that had stood for 8 years. She led 2 other girls under this previous course records making it by far the fastest middle school girls race on this course EVER. Now, not only did Kate set the course record, she bested our Middle School Girls 2 mile school record (that she already owned), and narrowly missed the HIGH SCHOOL Girls XC 2 mile record by 2 seconds that dates all the way back to 2000! For some perspective, Kate wouldn’t have been born for another 10 years after this record was set. Kate is a beast and I have no doubt we will see a lot of records fall in the next few years with her running.

SCHOOL RECORD ALERT
This weekend at Hugoton Austin Ritsema went out and threw down not only a 44 second personal best, but a 32 second school record which was set last XC season by teammate Alex Luce. Austin finished the race in second place with a 15:28 5k. With this performance Ritsema will be ranked not only one of the top runners in 3A this year, but in the entire state.

Our High School boys races definitely kept everyone on their toes and was super fun to see them compete. Like the girls, JV ran 2 miles and these boys went out of the gates FLYING starting the race with 3 boys in the top 5! We finished with 3 in the top 7 and the next boys weren’t far behind! In the Varsity race the boys were faced with finally facing off with some good team competition and teams we will see as the season goes on. We saw huge personal bests but more importantly we saw runners step up when their teammates weren’t having the best race.

The Girls High School race was an awesome performance and super exciting to watch. With being short a couple runners we were not able to compete and place as a team, but that’s didn’t hold back these young ladies from going out there and setting their standards for the rest of the season high! We saw massive personal bests and good placement out of our girls. Once we get a whole team rolling we’ll be pretty tough to compete with! JV ran 2 miles while varsity stayed at the normal 5km distance.

Wait our coaches are fast??
This weekend at the Hugoton Inv. the coaches had a little fun for themselves in the fun run busting out the old high school uniforms. They put on a show placing 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 5th. Coach Rem and Coach Lawson veered off course running a bit further than all the other competitors with Coach Drew and Coach Payden listened to the lady giving directions… whoops. Kids were fired up to watch the coaches race and get the day started!

Don't forgot about see you at the pole this Wednesday!! The whole community of Lakin is invited, hope to cya there!
