LHS Forensics traveled to Ulysses on March 26th to compete in the GWAC League Tournament. We were not able to compete for Team Sweeps since we are not a member of the GWAC, but we were able to bring home some individual awards.
Camden Bergkamp placed 2nd in both Informative and Impromptu. He also qualified for State Championships in each. Camden is now State Champ qualified for 5 different events!
Isaac Bradford had a strong showing by placing 3rd in Extemp, and Manny Gonzalez place 5th. Manny also placed 6th in Impromptu.
Luca Roman showed tremendous improvement and placed 4th in OO. Cheyenne Grusing and Gisele Romero battled competition in IDA and brought home 5th Place.
Zael Bermudez competed in HSA for the first time and brought home 6th place.
All in all, we had a great showing. We have two tournaments left in the regular season. Next tournament is at Ashland on April 11th. I want to thank the GWAC schools for inviting us to take part in their League Tournament!!! It was a great experience for us all! Also, huge kudos to Leah King, Hannah Schauf, Tiffany Hilger, and Bene Garcia for stepping up to help with judging!

Yesterday, Plant and Soil Science students spent the afternoon in the greenhouse transplanting plants into flats. One important skill was working on filling containers with potting soil and the importance of making it firm for better water retention and root availability.

LHS Chemistry Zombie Apocalypse Escape Room! Students had to solve puzzles relating to chemical bonds. Don't fear...everyone escaped!!

Today our Junior U.S. History class had the incredible opportunity to travel to Camp Amache to learn more about the history of Japanese American internment during World War II.
Students were able to walk the actual camp grounds and truly see where history happened, something that brings a whole new level of understanding you just can’t get from a textbook or picture.
We also visited the museum, which is run entirely by students from Granada High School. These students take on the responsibility of learning the full history of the camp and then give tours throughout the year.
Honestly, it was amazing to see young people so knowledgeable, passionate, and dedicated to preserving this important part of history. Experiences like this remind us why hands-on learning matters so much.

We are excited to welcome guest speaker Todd Linder to Lakin High School on March 30.
Todd shares a powerful message about distracted driving and its real-life impact. He has presented across the country to students, adults, and at both state and national levels.
This presentation will take place at 11:00 AM in the Main Gym and is open to all 8th–12th grade students as well as community members.
We hope everyone can attend and hear this important message.

Huge congratulations to the current and newly inducted members of the Lakin High School National Honor Society. Your hard work, leadership, and commitment to excellence are something to be proud of.
Also a big thank you to Cottonwood Coffeehouse for hosting and helping make the evening special.
