After the most recent actions taken by the KSBE it appears (at least for now) that we will start school and sports as scheduled. With that being the case, we will make next week our last official week of BRONC STRONG workouts. Our previous schedule at the beginning of the summer didn't have that due to uncertainties with the summer schedule. As of now, any extra workouts in the weight room, at the track or on the fields can be done at the discretion of the captains and/or head coaches.

As many of you have heard, yesterday the State Board of Education did not approve Governor Kelly’s Executive Order to delay the opening of schools until September 9.
The decision on when school starts now shifts to each local school board.
At this point in time we do not anticipate a change in the start day for students published on the current calendar.
A group of USD 215 staff and patrons began working to solidify our reopening guidelines. We expect those to be approved by the Board of Education at a special meeting in early August. Once they are approved by the Board we will communicate them to you directly and make sure copies are available electronically.

We are needing more teams to make this happen. Please contact Coach Thompson to sign up! #getBETTER

Bronc Strong and scheduled team workouts will resume tomorrow and continue until further notice. We will continue taking the appropriate precautions to keep our athletes and coaches safe. See you in the morning!

Locker 66:5 has graciously donated supplies for the LMS kids. They will be providing most of their list. They won’t be buying the trapper keepers, PE items and binders for art. But should have the rest covered. They will hand out to the students on enrollment at the Lutheran Church along with items Lakin Drug is donating for the LGS. A huge thanks to them for the gracious donation to our kids and families during these uncertain times. Please reach out with questions. Thanks
I’ve also attached the LMS supply list

Dear Lakin Community,
Today Governor Laura Kelly held a press briefing to announce Kansas Education Plans for the 2020-2021 school year. Joining her at the briefing was Dr. Lee Norman, Secretary for the Kansas Department of Health and Environment and Dr. Randy Watson, Kansas Commissioner of Education.
The briefing informed schools that on Monday, July 20, 2020, Governor Kelly will release an executive order requiring schools to delay opening until after Labor Day. It will also require daily temperature checks and masks to be worn.
We will know more on Monday after we review the exact wording of the order and will begin work on our specific reopening plan for USD 215 and will include a new academic calendar.
Dr. Martin Stessman, Superintendent of Schools
