Our second graders had an amazing hands-on experience learning about the Oregon Trail! They got a glimpse into the challenges pioneers faced while traveling west. From the dangers of drinking river water and getting sick, to making corral enclosures with wagons to protect against wild animals at night, the kids explored it all. They even played leap frog, crossed a river and lost their wagon and belongings, and learned how pioneers had to lighten their loads when facing steep mountains.
Afterward, our brave travelers wrote diary entries, sharing the obstacles they faced on their journey. What a memorable way to bring history to life!
