Alli Mead made the first-day cut last Monday at the state Class 3-2-1A golf tournament in Hutchinson, and the junior turned that into a medal on Tuesday.

Mead placed 18th at Carey Park Golf Course, shooting a 93 Monday and a 94 Tuesday for a 197 total (45 over par).

That was three strokes from placing 14th.

The winning score was 146 (+4) by Margaret Ulrich of Wichita Collegiate.

Second and third place scores were +12 and +14.

Mead competed at the state meet last year, shooting a 103 each day. She placed 35th in 2021.

“I played fairly well with the exception of two holes,” Mead said.

“My goal was to make it in the top 20 at state and I achieved that with 18th place.”

Coach Michelle Thompson and senior teammate Anais Gonzalez accompanied Mead, who said their support—along with family—made the tournament fun.

Mead said her goal is to make it back to state in her senior season.
