The cross country teams traveled to Goodland last Thursday to open the season.
For the boys, the highlight was Alex Luce winning the varsity race. the sophomore finished in 17:42, which was 16 seconds ahead of the second-place runner.
Senior Leo Shelden medaled by finishing 15th, running a 20:08.1.
The Broncs finished fourth with 88 points. Holcomb won the meet with 32 points. Scott City was second (48) and Norton third (77) in the seven-team field.
Other varsity placers were Eric Munson (28th--21:48.9), Isaac Jaquez (30th--22:02.2), Avory Barrera (33rd--22:40), and Tyelor Holloway (46th--26:11).
For the girls, Maile White finished 10th (24:45.8) and Anne Sophie Van Der Knaap 12th (25:06.9).
The girls finished fifth with 109 points. Scott City won with 35.
Exchange student Elina Helwich finished 31st (29:42.1), Ivy Davis was 33rd (30:33), Abby Holmes 35th (31:00.1), and Odaliz Garcia 40th (33:43.7).
For the JV girls, Shillelagh Kentner finished fifth and Kayleen Tanner sixth.
For the JV boys, Anthony Ornelas led the way in 18th and Camden Bergkamp was 19th.
Other Lakin runners were Zael Bermudez (29th), Crhis Ortiz (33rd) Zalvador Bermudez (35th) and Brock Pauda (37th).
For middle school, Owen Ostberg finished fifth. Owen White was 26th and Kade Hartman 36th.
Addison Grusing finished 20th for the middle school girls.
The team will compete in Greeley County Saturday.
