The baseball team split a doubleheader at home against Hugoton last Thursday, falling 12-2 in the opener but getting a 15-12 win in the second.

   Jace Bachman hit for the cycle in game two, including a home run in the fifth inning. It was his third homer of the season, and he raised his batting average to .700.

   The Broncs trailed 6-3 after three innings, and Bachman’s home run got them to within 6-4 after five.

   Hugoton scored five more runs in the sixth to take an 11-4 lead before the Broncs countered with 11 runs in the home half of the sixth to secure the win.

   Lakin out-hit Hugoton 12-10, with Bachman’s four hits leading the team.

   Bachman also had four RBI, while Matt Morgan, Braden Fisher, Allen Martinez and Bode McCormick all had two apiece.

   Martinez and Lawson Beymer pitched for Lakin, with Martinez striking out five and walking three and Beymer striking out four and walking just one.

   In the first game, Bachman pitched five innings and struck out 14 batters, holding the Eagles scoreless for the first three innings before the Eagles scored four runs (only two earned) over the next two innings.

   Bachman had three of the Broncs’ eight singles.

   The split put the Broncs at 9-5 for the season.
