Girls move on to sub-state, boys end wrestling season

 Lakin's two girls qualified for next week's sub-state tournament but the boys' season ended at the Class 3-2-1A regional tournament in WaKeeney last weekend.
Josiah Ortiz remained undefeated this season with a win by fall (1:24) over Abby Heifner of Ellis.
At 115 pounds, Isabell Ortiz placed second, losing by fall to Jadyn Thompson of Pratt.
She won her first match by fall (:58) and her semifinal round in a 6-5 decision.
She is now 24-3 this season.
Both girls will compete in the Girls Division II sub-state tournament in Ellis on Friday. Josiah Ortiz will face Noelle Peters of Smoky Valley in the opening round, while Isabell Ortiz will take on Amethyst Hale of McPherson.

On the boys side, Kade Lovelady was the only Bronc to pick up a win. The senior won his quarterfinal match at 160 pounds with a 10-7 decision.

In the semifinals, Lovelady lost by fall (1:09) and then lost a 1-0 decision in the consolation semifinal.
Also competing were Josue Peraza (106), Tyler Tarpley (126), Bly Gosch (138), Curtis Beam (145), Omar Gonzalez (220) and Dravin Chavira (285).
