Broncs fall on homecoming
By LHSports
Homecoming night was both good and bad for the Broncs Friday.
While they lost the game against Southwestern Heights 24-12, Lakin found the end zone twice for their first scores of the season.
Cole Larkan-Waechter gave the Broncs their first touchdown of the season — and their first lead — when he scored from five yards in the second quarter.
Heights scored twice in the quarter to take a 16-6 halftime lead and once again in the third before Reed Bemis scored from four yards in the final period.
Lakin ran 78 plays to the Mustangs’ 49 and out-gained Heights 226 yards to 181.
The Broncs also had 18 first downs to Heights’ nine. But Lakin led in two negative categories, committing four turnovers to Heights’ one and being penalized 88 yards to just 40 for the Mustangs.
Bemis completed 12 of 25 passes for 162 yards, his longest being a 36-yards play to Avery Manzano.
Larkan-Waechter rushed 26 times for 84 yards. Cade Berning had six carries for seven yards.
Manzano had six receptions for 109 yards. Berning and Jaden Valle each had two receptions.
Valle had four tackles and assisted on five. He had one sack, two tackles for loss and one interception.
Cage Line had two tackles and 11 assists.
The loss dropped the Broncs to 0-5 for the season with games at Kingman and Douglass before finishing the regular season at home against Chaparral Oct. 23.
