Football falls in opener

The high school football season got underway Friday, but it wasn’t the outcome Lakin hoped for.
The Broncs lost 40-0 to Holcomb at home in a game pushed back an hour due to heat concerns.
Holcomb scored twice in the opening quarter and led 27-0 at halftime.
Lakin had one chance in the red zone late in the fourth quarter but could not capitalize.
The Broncs ran 48 plays to Holcomb’s 44 but were out-gained 327 yards to 147, with all of Lakin’s yards coming on the ground.
Cole Larkan led the Broncs with 46 rushing yards on 11 carries, including one play for 17 yards.
Reed Bemis had 27 yards on five carries and Emanuel Valle had 25 yards on nine carries.
Cage Line and Valle led the defense with six tackles.
Lakin (0-1) will be on the road Friday at Syracuse, whose opener at Sublette was cancelled due to weather.
