Softball season ends at state

By LHSports

The softball team’s Cinderella season ended in less-than fairy-tale fashion Monday, when they lost in the quarterfinals of the state Class 3A tournament.

After qualifying for just the second time in school history (2003 was the only other time the Broncs went to state), Lakin lost 7-0 to top-seed Southeast of Saline, played at Salina South High School

The Trojans scored two runs in each of the first two innings, then again in the fifth. They outhit the Broncs 6-3.

Lakin got hits from Sara Martinez, Aydrah Rosales and Avyree Greer.

Freshman Kiah Beymer pitched all six innings, giving up six earned runs, striking out none and walking seven.

Trojans pitcher Karlee Zurfluh struck out 11 Lakin batters and walked two.

After starting the season 1-9, Lakin went 14-3 the rest of the season, taking down three higher seeds in last week’s regional.

The Broncs finished the season 15-13 under first-year coaches Logan Litton and Dylan Gilleland.
