Michaelis, Esquibel lead track to state

Lakin track and field qualified 12 entries to the state meet after running regionals in Cheney Friday.

Aryn Michaelis won three individual titles and qualified in a fourth while Quincy Esquibel won two titles and qualified in a third to lead the Broncs.

Michaelis set a school record in winning the 100-meter hurdles in 15.07 seconds.

She also won the high jump, clearing 5-6, and the triple jump, leaping 37-9.5.

Michaelis also qualified in the long jump, finishing fourth (16-8).

Esquibel won both of his gold medals on the runway. He won the long jump, going 21-5, and the triple jump, landing at 43-0.

He also qualified in the 110-meter hurdles, finishing third in 15.35 seconds.

Zael Bermudez won gold in the 3200-meter run, clocking in at 10:00.56.

Kate Miller qualified in two events. She placed third in the 3200-meter run in 12:01.74. She was fourth in the 1600-meters, running 5:27.51.

Amari Esquibel qualified in the 100-meter dash, posting 12.78 seconds.

Aydyn Holloway qualified in the triple jump, placing fourth (41-4.5).

Also qualifying was the boys 4x800 relay. The team of Camden Bergkamp, Josiah Sholtz, Gavin Dyas and Bermudez finished fourth in 8:34.08.

Other regional placers (5th-7th places)

Amari Esquibel, 200-meter dash (7th, 27.35); Marisa Aller, shot put (7th, 33-1.75 PR); Jordan McCombs, 100-meter hurdles (6th, 17.03 PR).

Girls 4x100 relay: Re-cie Dixon, Claire Barnhardt, McCombs, Esquibel (6th, 51.72); Boys 4x100 relay: Holloway, Cole Larkan, Jesse Lancaster, Esquibel (7th, 44.68).

The girls finished fourth with 56 points. Heston won with 112.

The boys finished sixth with 45 points. Holcomb won with 114.

The state meet starts Friday at Wichita State University.
