Baseball splits with Holcomb

Lakin hosted Holcomb Thursday for senior night to end the regular season.

Holcomb won game one 9-4, but Lakin took the second game 7-5.

In game one, Holcomb scored three times in the top of the first and added another run in the second and fifth innings.

Kyle Douglas scored Lakin’s first run on a wild pitch in the bottom of the second inning. Remey Perez scored the second run in the third on an error on an Eli Bemis groundout.

In the fifth, Brayden Ansel led off with a double, advanced to third on a sacrifice fly and scored on an Avery Manzano sacrifice fly.

Later in the fifth, after stealing second and third, Wyatt Burch scored on a passed ball, cutting the lead to 5-4.

Holcomb scored four runs in the top of the sixth to shut down the Broncs’ comeback attempt.

Holcomb outhit the Broncs 6-1, while Lakin committed five errors to Holcomb’s two.

Angel Davila pitched the first five innings, giving up five runs (one earned), striking out four and walking two.

In game two, Lakin was down 2-0 in the first, when they scored seven, highlighted by Ansel’s 3-run double.

Ansel led the team with three runs batted in.

Eli Bemis got the win, pitching five innings. He gave up four hits and four runs (two earned), while striking out six and walking three.

The win ended a five-game losing streak for the Broncs.

Lakin finishes the regular season 8-12.
