Baseball falls twice at Hugoton

The baseball team lost a pair of close games Thursday at Hugoton, losing 8-6 and 7-6.

In game one, Lakin fell behind 8-1 before making a comeback, only to fall 8-6.

Trailing 8-1 in the sixth, Remey Perez led off with a double and Eli Bemis hit a homer to center. Jayden Johnson followed that with a homer to right, making the score 8-4 with no outs.

The Broncs scored again when Brayden Ansel drove in Kyle Douglas with a two-out single.

Johnson singled in Perez for one more run to cut the score to 8-6 but left runners stranded at second and third to end the game.

Wyatt Burch started, giving up nine hits and seven runs (four earned) over four innings, striking out five and walking one.

Johnson took the loss, giving up one run on hit, striking out two and walking two in two innings.

In game two, Lakin scored three runs in the first inning. With two outs, Weston Loeppke homered to center, driving in Bemis and Johnson.

In the fourth inning, Avery Manzano hit a ground ball to third, and Douglas scored on an error.

In the fifth, Angel Davila doubled to center, scoring Johnson to give Lakin a 5-1 lead. They took a 6-3 lead in the seventh when Johnson doubled to center, scoring Perez.

Hugoton scored four runs in their final at-bat. They had five singles and two walks in that inning, scoring the winning run on a bases-loaded walk.
