Softball splits with Goodland

The softball team split a doubleheader Friday, losing to Goodland, 7-3 but taking the nightcap 8-7 at home.

In game one, Lakin collected 10 hits, with Kiah Beymer going 3-for-4 at the plate. Lileah Villa had two runs batted in.

Goodland scored four runs in the first and twice in the fifth.

Lakin scored twice in the third. Villa reached base via an error, which scored the two runs.

Paiton Talmadge scored on a steal of home in the sixth.

Beymer went all seven innings, striking out 10 and walking three. Five of Goodland’s runs were earned.

In game two, Goodland took a 3-0 lead in the top of the second, thanks in part to a two-run double with one out.

Lakin tied the game in the bottom of the third, Taegan Oldham hit a sacrifice, scoring Sara Martinez. Atlantis Hernandez singled, which scored two more runs.

Both teams scored a run in the fourth, Lakin’s on a Katz single to drive in Martinez.

Lakin took the lead in the fourth, 6-4. Talmadge and Beymer hit doubles, each driving in a run.

Goodland got one run back in the top of the fifth, but Lakin responded with a run on a passed ball to lead 7-5.

In the sixth, Villa singled, stole second and scored on an error to make it 8-5.

Lakin outhit the Cowgirls 11-9, committing five errors to Goodland’s three.

Beymer pitched all seven innings, giving up four earned runs, striking out one and walking two.
