Baseball falls in season opener

The varsity baseball season finally got underway Tuesday when Lakin hosted Southwestern Heights.
Lakin fell to the Mustangs 6-1 and 12-2.
Heights scored once in the second inning and three times in the four to take a 4-0 lead.
Lakin scored their one run in the bottom of the fourth, but the Mustangs scored two more in the sixth to seal the win.
Heights out-hit the Broncs 9-1, with Lakin committing one error.
Weston Loeppke scored the Broncs’ lone run.
Lakin hitters struck out 17 times.
Eli Bemis started for the Broncs. He struck out two and walked two in three innings.
In game two, the Mustangs erupted for seven runs in the third to cruise to the win. They out-hit the Broncs 12-7 with both teams committing one error each.
Bemis had two hits for the Broncs. Jason Arreola and Enrique Ortega both scored a run.
Loeppke started for the Broncs, striking out three and walking three. Jayden Johnson pitched one inning, striking out two and walking two. Angel Davila pitched the final two innings, striking out two and walking one.
