Softball dominates in getting first win

The softball team picked up their first win of the season in a big way, taking game two at Ulysses 35-12, after falling in the first game 18-8.
Avyree Greer drove in five runs on four hits in the high-scoring nightcap to propel the Broncs to their first win in six games.
Lakin scored 16 runs in the seventh inning to cruise to the win. The Broncs had 21 at-bats in the inning after having 22 at-bats combined in the first six innings.
Lakin had early leads of 3-1 and 6-4 in the second and third innings. They then scored 13 runs in the next three innings before their 16-run seventh.
The Broncs pounded out 22 hits to the Tigers’ seven.
Lileah Villa, Kia Beymer, Taybree Lohman-Fuller, Maelee Katz and Atlantis Hernandez all had three runs batted in, with Beymer and Lohman-Fuller having Lakin’s only extra-base hits, both doubles.
Taegan Oldham pitched all seven innings, giving up seven hits and eight earned runs. She struck out 11 and walked 11.
In the first game, Lakin led 5-4 after two innings and 8-7 after four.
But Ulysses scored nine runs in the fifth inning and two in the sixth to get the win.
Lakin had eight hits and eight errors, while the Tigers had seven hits but only four errors.
Beymer and Oldham led the team with two hits and two runs batted in each. Both players had a double.
Oldham faced 39 batters, giving up six hits, striking out five and walking nine.
Of the 17 runs scored off of Oldham, only three were earned.
