Golfers open season

The boys golf team opened their season Monday at the Holcomb Invitational, held at Buffalo Dunes.
Sixteen teams participated in the 18-hole tournament under windy conditions, with South Gray taking the team title with 341 strokes, just ahead of Syracuse (349) and Kiowa County (356).
Lakin finished in ninth place with 392 strokes, just seven shots behind Hugoton and one stroke behind Elkhart.
A total of 89 golfers competed.
Gavin Wahl of South Gray took the individual title, shooting a 71, a stroke under par. Lane Stand of Hugoton finished second with a 79.
Zavian Richter led Lakin, finishing ninth by firing an 84 (+12).
Brayson Hoover finished 18th with an 89.
