Boys season comes to an end

The boys basketball season ended Friday as they fell to Holcomb 67-36 in the substate finals in Larned.

Lakin trailed 20-3 after one quarter, hitting just 1-of-12 from the floor. Holcomb started the game with a 17-0 run.

Things improved only slightly in the second as the Broncs hit three shots, but their eight points in that frame left them trailing 35-11 at halftime.

The Broncs converted 27 percent from the field. They shot 10 of 31 inside the arc and 4 of 21 from 3-point range.

Holcomb shot 48 percent and outscored the Broncs 24-7 off turnovers. Lakin committed 18 turnovers to Holcomb’s 12.

The Longhorns out rebounded Lakin 39-31.

Leading scorer for Lakin was Jesse Peregrino with 15 points.

Leading rebounder was Norian Cantu with six. Cantu, Peregrino and Flo Canac each had two assists.

Lakin finished the season 15-9.
