Boys advance to sub-state finals

The boys basketball team advanced to the sub-state finals with a 73-63 win over Southwestern Heights at home Tuesday.

Tied 56-56 early in the fourth quarter, the Broncs outscored Heights 17-7 down the stretch, including 13 points from Flo Canac.

Heights held a 13-10 lead after the first quarter but Lakin took a 31-30 edge at halftime.

Lakin led 54-47 at the end of three before the Mustangs went on a 9-2 run in the fourth to create the tie.

The Broncs converted 36 percent from the floor and were nine of 34 from 3-point range.

Heights made 43 percent from the floor but were just one of 14 from 3-point range.

Lakin was 14 of 17 from the free throw line, including 7 of 8 in the final minutes.

Sixteen Mustangs turnovers led to 21 of Lakin’s points.

Both teams pulled down 39 rebounds.

Canac led the Broncs with 27 points, nine rebounds, six assists and four steals.

Jesse Peregrino had 15 points and Aydyn Holloway 13.
