Girls win playoff opener

The Lakin girls made a statement in the opening game of the sub-state tournament, taking down Lyons at home Friday, 68-23.
The Broncs took advantage of 41 Lions turnovers, cashing them in for 42 points.
Lakin shot 47 percent from the floor, scoring 44 of their points in the paint.
The Broncs won the boards, pulling down 28 rebounds to Lyons’ 20. Nineteen of those were on the offensive side.
Aryn Michaelis led the Broncs with 17 points. Kate Miller had 12 and Amari Esquibel 10.
Michaelis had six rebounds and Aubrie Yakel five.
Lileah Villa had eight assists. Michaelis had eight steals.
Lakin (18-4) will host Ellsworth (15-6) Wednesday in the sub-state 1 semifinal.
The winner of that game will face the winner of Beloit (17-6) and Larned (17-6) in Larned Saturday for the title to go to state.
