Homecoming success for girls basketball

After suffering a loss to Liberal Tuesday, Homecoming Friday proved a good way to rebound as the girls took down Elkhart 69-8.

Lakin took a 13-4 lead after one quarter and erupted for a 25-0 second quarter to “Cage the ‘Cats.”

Lakin was 24 of 56 from 2-point range (41 percent) and mixed in four 3-pointers.

Twenty-eight Elkhart turnovers led to 31 of Lakin’s points, and they outscored the Wildcats 38-2 in the paint.

Lakin pulled down 31 offensive and 25 defensive rebounds.

Ten girls scored for the Broncs, led by Aryn Michaelis’ 15. Jordan McCombs added nine and Kate Miller seven.

Lileah Villa and Maleigha Budd led the team with six rebounds each.

Villa had five assists and Miller had three steals.

Lakin improved to 14-4 with three games remaining.
