Girls drop game to Liberal

For the first half of Tuesday’s home game against Liberal, the Lakin girls were in control. By halftime, the Broncs held a 27-16 lead over Class 6A Liberal.
However, the second half—especially the fourth quarter—told a different story.
Liberal used a dominant 25-4 final period to pull away for the win.
Lake converted 35 percent of their shots for the game. In the first half, they made 44 percent, but the third period saw that number fall to 38 percent and the fourth quarter just 14 percent (2 for 13).
Liberal dominated in the paint, outscoring Lakin 40-18. They also had a 20-3 edge on transition points and 16-7 off turnovers.
Liberal also held a 38-27 edge on rebounds.
Aryn Michaelis had 17 points and Kate Miller 10 to lead Lakin.
Michaelis had seven rebounds. Lileah Villa and Jordan McCombs each had three assists. Villa had three steals.
It was Lakin’s first loss after seven straight wins. Their record stands at 13-4 with four regular season games remaining.
