Girls get comeback win over Heights

Tuesday’s Throwback Night provided a lot of excitement for the Lakin girls, as they picked up a comeback win over Southwestern Heights, 56-51.
Leading 6-2 early in the first quarter, Lakin saw the Mustangs come back and take a 15-10 lead early in the second.
The Broncs came back late in the second to go ahead 19-17 but trailed 25-24 by halftime.
Lakin took the 42-36 lead at the end of three, but the Mustangs tied the game twice in the final period before Lakin pulled away.
Both teams shot near 33 percent, with Lakin cashing in four more field goals, while Heights scored five more points at the free throw line.
Heights’ 17 turnovers led to 12 of Lakin’s points.
The Broncs won the boards, 44-37 and outscored Heights 18-9 from second-chance shots.
Lileah Villa led the Broncs with 13 points. Amari Esquibel had 12 and Kate Miller 10.
Aryn Michaelis had nine rebounds, and Jordan McCombs and Villa each had seven.
Villa had four assists and Michaelis three steals.
This was Lakin’s fifth straight win, taking their record to 11-3.
