The Lakin girls went 2-1 in the Garden City Roundball Classic to finish fifth in tournament play.
Final round
Lakin 49, Scott City 45
The Bronc girls finished the tournament strong with a come-from-behind win against Scott City Saturday, 49-45, to claim fifth place.
After scoring just three points in the second quarter, Lakin found themselves down 24-14 at halftime.
Down 30-16 early in the third period, Lakin outscored the Beavers 33-13 down the stretch for the win.
The Broncs hit for 10 free throws and a pair of 3-pointers in the final quarter.
Lakin shot just 27 percent from the floor but were 23 of 32 from the free throw line (Scott City shot 35 percent but were only 7 of 18 from the line).
The Broncs scored 22 free throws on 32 attempts. Scott City was just 5 of 11 at the line.
The Beavers won the rebounds, 44-31 but committed 21 turnovers.
Jordan McCombs led the Broncs with 16 points and Lileah Villa added 11. Villa had three assists, and Aryn Michaelis and Maleigha Budd each had three seals.
Round 2
Lakin 64, Coronado, Colo. 31
In Friday’s semifinal consolation game at the college, Lakin got a 64-29 victory over Coronado, Colo.
Lakin led 13-4 after one quarter and 26-5 by halftime.
The Broncs shot 29 percent from the floor to Coronado’s 25 percent.
The Broncs were 23 off 37 from the free throw line.
Lakin scored 29 points off of 36 Coronado turnovers, and they won the rebound battle 45-33.
Aryn Michaelis led the Broncs with 14 points, Kate Miller had 11, and Jordan McCombs added 10.
Michaelis had nine rebounds and McCombs seven. Lileah Villa had three assists and three steals.
Round 1
Ottawa 62, Lakin 40
In Thursday’s opening round at home, a bad second quarter led to Lakin losing to Ottawa, 62-40.
Tied at 12-12 after one quarter, Ottawa outscored the Broncs 21-5 in the second to take a 33-17 halftime lead and cruised to the win.
Lakin shot just 27 percent from the floor (13 of 48). Ottawa shot 44 percent, including eight 3-pointers.
Ottawa won the rebound battle, 32-31.
Aryn Michaelis led the Broncs with 11 points and Jordan McCombs 10.
Michaelis had 11 rebounds and Lillian Villa had four assists.
