Broncs open with win

The Broncs started the new Hunter Kirby era with a resounding win at home Friday, taking down Wallace County 59-33.

Kirby watched his team dominate the Wildcats early, taking a 9-2 lead after the first quarter. A 25-7 second quarter put the game out of reach quickly.

The Broncs shot 40 percent from the floor, including 10 of 27 from 3-point range.

A tough defense forced 25 Wildcat turnovers, resulting in 20 of Lakin’s points.

Flo Canac, an exchange student, led Lakin with 30 points, including 10 of 16 shooting (7 of 10 from behind the arc) and four steals.

Jesse Peregrino added 10 points, including a pair of threes.

Wallace County edged Lakin 35-32 on the boards. Aydyn Holloway had eight boards and Norian Cantu seven.

Peregrino had six assists.

The Broncs will play in the Garden City Roundball tournament thiås week and will travel to Sublette next Tuesday to close out the pre-holiday season.
