Bermudez ninth, boys sixth at state cross country

Zael Bermudez’s ninth-place finish helped the Lakin boys to a sixth-place at the state cross country meet Saturday at Rim Rock Farm in Lawrence.
Bermudez ran a 16:39.6 for the 5-kilometer course to take a place on the awards stand.
Brody Deniston of Holcomb won the title, coming in 15:45.9.
Southeast of Saline won the boys team title with 57 points. Holcomb was fourth at 124. The Broncs finished sixth with 150 points.
Camden Bergkamp finished 39th (17:50.3), Blake Matthews was 54th (18:13.1), Gavin Dyas 56th (18:14.1), and Tyler Johnson 75th (18:50.9).
Also running for Lakin were Josiah Sholtz (79th — 18:59.7) and Kannon Woodrow (86th — 19:18.8).
Girls results
Lakin sent two girls to the state meet.
Kate Miller finished 16th overall, running the course in 20:18.78.
Winning time was 18:27.06 by Tyler Coleman of Wichita Trinity. The freshman won the race by just over a minute.
Emma Miller finished 40th, running 21:30.29.
