Boys team, two girls qualify for state cross country

Saturday morning’s regional cross country meet in Dodge City was wet, but that didn’t dampen the mood for the Lakin Broncs.
The boys finished second as a team to qualify for state. The Broncs scored 67 points, just two points behind Holcomb.
Zael Bermudez led the boys with a second place finish, running 16:53.97.
Brody Deniston of Holcomb won the meet in 16:14.47.
Camden Bergkamp was 10th in 17:57.20. Blake Matthews was 14th (18:08.19), Gavin Dyas 16th (18:12.25), Josiah Sholtz 30th (19:11.69).
Tyler Johnson was 32nd and Kannon Woodrow 36th.
The girls qualified two to the state meet.
Kate Miller led the Lakin girls. The freshman placed fifth in 20:37.92.
Junior Emma Miller also qualified for state, finishing 10th in 21:24.30.
Other Lakin girls finishers were Clair Barnhardt (22), Amari Esquibel (31), Honey Murillo (34), And Abby Holmes (39).
The girls finished fourth as a team with 75 points. Scott City won with 50; Norton was second with 54.
State will be held at Rim Rock Farm in Lawrence Saturday.
