Football falls to Colby

After a promising start, things took a turn for the Broncs as they fell to Colby on Senior Night Friday, 43-22.

Lakin scored twice in the first quarter to take a 13-0 lead, but the tide changed quickly as the Eagles scored 36 straight points.

Both of Lakin’s scores came on drives after Colby turnovers in the opening period.

Following a Colby fumble (recovered by Cage Line), Reed Bemis got the Broncs on the board on a 2-yard plunge at 9:52 in the first quarter.

Following an interception by Cade Berning, Eli Bemis ran in 25 yards at 3:17.

Colby scored on a 1-yard run and 58-yard pass play to take a 16-13 lead at halftime.

In the third, the Eagles scored on a 63-yard pass play.

In the fourth, Colby scored twice to take a 36-13 lead before Lakin scored on a safety. Following the free kick, Alex Robles ran 45 yards for Lakin’s final touchdown, getting the Broncs to within 36-23.

Lakin ran 53 plays for 274 yards, with all but one on the ground..

Colby ran 44 plays for 393 yard, with 326 of those in the air.

Alex Robles had 154 yards rushing on 23 carries. Eli Bemis had 83 yards on 11 carries.


Line led the Broncs defense with four solo tackles (two for loss) and three assists.


The Broncs (2-5) travel to Larned Friday.
