Lakin dominates league XC

Both the boys and girls teams claimed titles at the HPL meet outside of Liberal Thursday.
The boys dominated the field with four top-10 finishes in claiming the team title with 21 points.
Stanton County was second with 37, Wichita County third with 84, and Syracuse fourth with 98.
Zael Bermudez finished first in 17:54.56 and Camden Bergkamp second in 17:58.70 to claim the top two spots.
Gavin Dyas was third in 18:21.56 and Blake Matthews fifth in 18:34.71.
Josiah Sholtz was 10th, Tyler Johnson 11th, and Kannon Woodrow 16th.
The girls placed five times in the top 13 to claim the team title with 25 points.
Southwestern Heights was second with 47 points and Stanton County third with 53.
Kate Miller won the individual title in 20:46.90.
Emma Miller was third in 21:42.41, Claire Barnhardt sixth in 23:15.91 and Amari Esquibel eighth in 23.58.63.
Honey Murillo was 11th and Abby Holmes 13th.
Lakin will run the Class 3A regional tournament at the Mariah Hills Golf Course in Dodge City Oct. 24.
JV boys
Brantley Martin finished 21st and Salvador Bermudez 26th to score points for the JV boys.
Blake Walker was 29th, Kaydon Wilson 39th and Zak Arias 48th as the boys won the JV title over Stanton County.
Jr. High
Miles Delgado won the boys title in the league 3200-meter race, running 11:44.61. Luke Miller was second in 11:46.75.
Clark Maddux was fifth, Blake Vasquez seventh, Jonathan Gannett eighth. And Raylan Holmes 18th.
The boys won the team title with 15 points over Heights.
Tess Barnhardt finished fifth and Kirbe Koons seventh for the junior high girls.
