Two qualify for state golf

Two Lakin golfers qualified for the state tournament by placing in the top 10 at the Class 3-2-1A regional tournament in Goodland Monday.
Mya Brown finished fifth and Lileah Villa ninth in the 55-person field.
Brown fired a 101 and Villa a 103 on the par-71 Sugar Hills Golf Club course.
Allison Cure won the tournament with an 85. Goodland claimed the top three spots to win the team title with 377 strokes.
Brown shot 50 on her front nine and 51 on the back. Her round included eight bogeys.
Villa took a different route, shooting 59 on her front nine and recovering with a 44 on the back, including three pars. She added six bogeys to her round.
Lakin finished seventh among 11 teams with 483 strokes.
Malee Katz finished 45th (135) and Paiton Talmadge 49th (144).
The state tournament will be held Oct. 20-21 at the Salina Municipal Golf Course.
