Football drops homecoming game

Friday’s homecoming wasn’t as festive as fans hoped as the Broncs fell 31-7 to Cimarron in the opening game of district play.

Lakin got on the scoreboard first when Alex Robles ran in from five yards out with 4:08 left in the quarter. .

From there, it was all Bluejays as they scored twice in the first quarter. The first was a 15-yard pass at the 2:57 mark, followed by a 66-yard run with 17 seconds left.

In the third quarter, Cimarron scored twice on short run plays to take a 28-7 lead into the final period, kicking a field goal late.

Lakin ran 52 plays for just 207 yards, while Cimarron ran 48 plays for 389 yard, with 304 of those on the ground.

Both teams had 13 first downs, but Lakin turned the ball over five times, three on fumbles and two on interceptions.

Robles led the team with 121 rushing yards, and Remey Perez had 41 yards receiving.

Weston Loeppke completed a pass on a trick play for 28 yards. Reed Bemis was 2-of-9 passing for 24 yards.

Loeppke had eight tackles and assisted on 10.

The Broncs (1-3) will travel to Southwestern Heights Friday for their second district game.
