Boys second, girls third in Hugoton

The cross country teams competed in Hugoton Saturday, with the boys finishing second and the girls third.
Camden Bergkamp placed second, leading the boys, who scored 71 points, behind Scott City’s 63.
Bergkamp’s time was 17:02.52, 10 seconds behind first place.
Blake Matthews placed 14th (17:51.38), Gavin Dyas 16th (18:01.29), Josiah Sholtz 20th (18:11.70).
Tyler Johnson was 26th and Kannon Woodrow 42nd.
Kate Miller finished second, running 20:04.66, 14 seconds behind the winner.
Emma Miller was 11th (21:07.90), Claire Barnhardt 19th (22:18.89), Honey Murillo 22nd (22:54.26), and Amari Esquibel 32nd (23:59.05).
The girls scored 72 points behind Hooker, Okla. (36) and Scott City (58).
Zalvador Bermudez, Blake Walker and Brantley Martin finished 10th, 11th and 12th to pace the JV boys.
For the seventh grade girls, Kirby Koons finished 10th. Luke Miller finished third for the seventh grade boys.
Tess Barnhardt finished third for the eighth grade girls. Miles Delgado finished fourth and Clark Maddux 11th for the eighth grade boys.
