Broncs get home win

The football team won its home opener Friday, defeating Syracuse 26-8 to move to 1-1 for the season.

The Broncs scored a touchdown in each quarter, two of those coming from Alex Robles.

Lakin got on the board first on a Weston Loeppke 9-yard run with 8:50 to play in the first quarter.

Syracuse took an 8-6 lead on their lone scoring drive, a 19-yard pass play and 2-point conversion.

Reed Bemis found Remey Perez in the corner of the end zone with 4:14 left in the half to take a 12-8 lead.

Robles scored from five yards out in the third and again the fourth from seven yards, with Bemis completing the 2-point conversion pass to Eli Bemis.

The Broncs had 284 of total offense, with 243 on the ground.

Robles had 158 yards rushing on 20 carries. Loeppke had 62 yards on seven carries.

Bemis was 2-for-4 passing for 41 yards, both to Perez.

Bode Bachman led the team with four tackles and nine assists. Cage Line had two tackles for loss.

Perez also had an interception.

Syracuse had 254 yards of offense, 156 on the ground.

The Broncs were 4-for-7 on third downs, while the Bulldogs were just 6-for-15.

The Broncs travel to Hoisington Friday for game three.
