Boys second, girls fifth at state

The boys track team finished second in Class 3A and the girls were fifth in the state track and field meet in Wichita last weekend.
The boys medaled 11 times, including two golds from Colter Oldham, to finish with 66 points. Holcomb won the meet with 84 points.
The girls medaled seven times, including one gold from Aryn Michaelis, to finish with 35.5 points. Beloit was the winner with 74 points. Burlington finished fourth with 37.5 ahead of the Broncs.
Boys medalists
The Lakin boys qualified 15 entries and placed 11 times.
Oldham won both the shot put and the discus — defending his titles in those events from last year — to claim gold for the Broncs.
Oldham set a state meet record in the shot put, throwing 60-9.5 on Friday. Runner-up was just one inch shorter for silver.
Saturday, Oldham defended his title in the discus. He threw 180-9 (runner-up was 178-3).
Austin Ritsema made the medal stand in all three of his events. The senior placed third in the 3200-meter run, clocking in at 9:14.27. Winning time was 9:09.62.
Ritsema finished fourth in the 1600, running 4:21.86 (winning time 4:12.77), and fourth in the high jump, clearing 6-2 (winning jump was 6-4).
Tyelor Holloway placed fourth in both of his events. In the 110-meter hurdles, he ran 14.99 seconds (winning time 14.36) and in the 300-meter hurdles he ran 39.86 seconds (winning time 38.52).
Quincy Esquibel placed third in the triple jump, measuring 43-3 (winning jump was 45-6). He was fifth in the 110-meter hurdles, running 15.10 seconds.
Ross Rider placed third in the long jump, going 21-0.75 (winning jump was 22-05).
The 4x400 relay placed fourth, running 42.88 seconds. The team of Adyn Holloway, Armando Salcido, Rider, and Tyler Holloway had qualified in the prelims in sixth. Winning time 42.48 seconds).
Girls medalists
Michaelis won the lone girls gold medal, taking the triple jump on Friday with a jump of 37-9.5, over nine inches farther than second place.
Michaelis finished fourth in the high jump, learning 5-2 (winning height was 5-8), and sixth in the 100-meter hurdles in 15.95 seconds (winning time was 14.18).
Alyssa Edgington placed second in the pole vault, clearing 10-6 (winning vault was 12-4). She was sixth in the long jump, going 17-2.75 (winning jump was 18-4.5).
Amari Esquibel placed sixth in the 100-meter dash. She clocked in at 12.81 seconds (winning time 11.99).
The 4x100 relay team of Esquibel, Michaelis, Jordan McCombs and Edgington placed fifth, running 50.57 seconds (winning time was 49.19).
Non-medalists
Amari Esquibel ran the 200-meter dash and ran 26.93 seconds in the prelims.
Oldham finished ninth in the javelin (166-5).
Quincy Esquibel placed 11th in the long jump (19-10).
Rider finished 10th in the triple jump (41-8.25).
The 4x400 relay team of Aydyn Holloway, Tyelor Holloway, Salcido and Rider finished 10th in prelims (3:31.83).
