Boys qualify 15 to state

The Lakin boys finished second as a team at the regional Class 3A meet in Scott City Thursday. 


In doing so, the boys qualified individually 13 times for the state meet along with two relays.


The top three placers in each event qualified automatically for state, with the four at-large spots open to the best remaining times and distances from among the four regionals.


Austin Ritsema won three events. The senior won the high jump, clearing 6-4. He also won the 1600-meter run in 4:27.73 and the 3200 meters in 9:59.86.


Colter Oldham qualified in three events. The senior won the shot put, throwing 61-10. He was third in the discus, throwing 162-5. He also qualified in the javelin with a fourth-place finish, throwing 175-6.


Quincy Esquibel won the triple jump title with a jump of 44-10.75. His fifth-place finish in the long jump (21-2.25) qualified as an at-large entry, as did his fourth-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles (15.05 seconds).


Tyelor Holloway placed third in the 110-meter hurdles, running 14.95 seconds. His fifth-place finish in the 300-meter hurdles (40.63 seconds) qualified as an at-large.


Ross Rider placed second in the long jump, going 21-5.25. He was also second in the triple jump, clearing 43-7.


The 4x100 team finished second, running 43.24. Esquibel, Holloway, Armando Salcido and Rider are the listed team, with Timmy Johnson and Adyn Holloway the alternates.


The 4x400 relay finished third in 3:27.36. Aydyn Holloway, Salcido, Rider and Tyelor Holloway are the listed team, with Ritsema as the alternate.


Holcomb won the meet with 114.5 points. Lakin was second with 112 in the 16-team field.
