The boys golf team came up one spot short of qualifying for state, but Noah Richter made the most of his day at the 3A regional in Goodland Monday.

Richter shot an 82 to finish fifth and qualify for the state tournament.

The team finished fourth, shooting a 388. Scott City was the state-qualifying third place team with a 380.

Goodland won the team title with a 330, while Norton was runner-up with a 373.

Richter shot a 38 on his front nine and 44 on his back nine for his 82 total on the par-71 course.

The senior tied for 21st at last year’s state meet, shooting a two-day total of 163 (79 and 84).

Other Lakin scores were Brayson Hoover (90) to finish 11th, Brennan Bless (105) to place 29th, Grant Mendenhall (111), Manuel Gonzales (117), and Thomas Peters (126).

The state 3A meet will be held Tuesday and Wednesday at Buffalo Dunes in Garden City.
