Baseball sweeps Hugoton

The baseball team improved to 13-1 with a pair of home wins against Hugoton Friday, 12-3 and 10-0.
Hugoton took a 3-2 lead after the top of the fourth inning in game one, but Lakin responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning, five more runs in the fifth, and two more in the sixth to get the win.
The Broncs out-hit the Eagles 10-8 and took advantage of seven Hugoton errors.
Gabe Cox, Jayden Johnson and Angel Davila each had two hits, with Johnson and Dru Patterson each batting in three runs.
Cox had a double for Lakin’s lone extra-base hit. Eli Bemis and Davila both had three stolen bases.
Bemis picked up the win, giving up three runs (one earned) and six hits. Armando Salcido pitched three innings of two-hit ball, striking out four batters.
In game two, Lakin scored three runs in the first and two in the second to jump out to the quick lead, adding four runs in the fifth to get the run-rule win.
Lakin scattered six hits and once again took advantage of seven Hugoton errors.
Johnson and Adrik Gomez-Esquibel each drove in a pair of runs and Patterson scored three times.
Patterson pitched all five innings, striking out nine and walking just one in the win.
