Softball splits with Hugoton

The softball team split a doubleheader against Hugoton at home Thursday, dropping the first game 8-6 but winning the second 12-2.

In the opener, Emma Beltran led the Broncs with two hits, Taybree Lohman-Fuller had two runs batted in and Luna Vazquez stole two bases.

Lakin led 4-2 after four innings, but the Eagles scored three runs in the fifth and three in the sixth to get the win. Hugoton out-hit the Broncs 8-7 and took advantage of five Lakin errors.

Moriah Ortiz pitched all seven innings, giving up eight hits and eight runs (only three were earned), while striking out six and walking three.

In the nightcap, the Broncs scored six runs in the second inning on their way to a 12-2 victory, out-hitting the Eagles 9-1.

Lileah Villa had three hits, including two doubles. Julia Arreola had three stolen bases.

Villa, Arreola, Ortiz and Beltran each had two runs batted in.

Ortiz struck out four and walked three in six innings.
