Baseball splits with Beavers

The baseball team split a doubleheader at Scott City Friday, falling 13-8 in the opener  but winning the nightcap 12-3.

Trailing 5-0 in the second inning of game one, Lakin scored four runs and one more in the top of the third to tie the game, 5-5.

Scott City scored in each of the next four innings, including four in the fifth to get the win.

Lakin had seven hits, including two each for Gabe Cox and Jayden Johnson.

Weston Loeppke and Eli Bemis each hit a double.

Cox had three of Lakin’s seven stolen bases.

Bemis took the loss, giving up five runs (only two earned). Armando Salcido pitched 2-2/3 innings, striking out four and walking four.

In the 12-3 win, Lakin scored three times in the first inning and two times in each of the next three innings.

Enrique Ortega led the Broncs with three hits and three runs batted in. Cox and Angel Davila each had two hits.

Adrik Gomez-Esquibel had a double for Lakin’s lone extra base hit.

Salcido had two of Lakin’s eight stolen bases.

Dru Patterson got the win, giving up two runs (one earned), striking out four and walking two.
