Girls pick up two wins

   After a defeat at the hands of Holcomb last Tuesday, the girls basketball team picked up a pair of wins Friday and Saturday.
   On the road Friday at Wichita County, the girls got a 61-34 win over the Indians.
   Leading just 14-11 after one quarter, they used a 24-11 second to get the large lead.
   The girls shot 39 percent from the floor (22 of 56), including six 3-pointers.
   The defense forced 30 turnovers, leading to 31 of Lakin’s points.
   Jaya Esquibel led the way with 25 points, including five 3-pointers. She also had eight steals and six assists.
   Talyn Beltran had 13 points and Tiana Gonzalez nine.
   Gonzalez led the team with nine rebounds.
   On Saturday, the girls got homecoming off to good start with a 67-40 over Wiley, Colo.
   The Broncs took a 12-5 lead after a quarter and held a 23-17 lead at halftime.
   They blew the game open with a 27-9 fourth quarter to get the back-to-back wins.
   Lakin shot 39 percent from the floor (24 of 62), including eight 3-pointers.
   They forced 25 turnovers, leading to 22 points.
   They out-boarded Wiley 36-34.
   Esquibel led the team with 26 points, including six 3-pointers.
   Gonzalez added 21 and Beltran 11.
   Gonzalez had 10 boards and Beltran nine.
   Esquibel had four steals and three assists. Ryan Rider and Beltran also had three assists.
