Softball sweeps Haskell County

The softball team took a pair of home wins Monday against Haskell County, 14-11 and 13-2.

Despite being outhit 16-13 in the first game, Lakin took a 4-2 lead after one inning, and then went up 12-4 after four innings.

Haskell County outscored Lakin 7-2 the rest of the way, falling short in their comeback.

Moriah Ortiz led the offense with three hits, while Jara Davidson had a pair of doubles and Lileah Villa had a triple.

Ortiz got the start, giving up just four runs in three innings, striking out five and walking four.

Cadence Brown got the win in relief, giving up just two earned runs off the seven that Haskell County scored late.

In game two, Jara Davidson went 4-for-4 at the plate to lead the Lakin offense.

Lakin scored 10 runs in the second inning to cruise to the win, collecting 17 hits to Haskell County’s four.

Brianna Holmes had three hits, including two doubles.

Davison, Holmes, Brown and Elitza Fonseca all had two runs batted in.

Ortiz pitched all five innings, striking out seven and walking just three.
