Baseball splits at Elkhart

The baseball team split a doubleheader at Elkhart Tuesday, losing the first game 2-1 but taking the second game 11-1.

Elkhart scored a run in the first inning and one more in the third to take a 2-0 lead before Lakin scored once in the fourth inning on an RBI from Eli Bemis.

The Wildcats outhit the Broncs 3-2, with Dru Patterson and Bemis getting Lakin’s two singles.

Patterson had Lakin’s lone stolen base.

Bode McCormick started for Lakin, going 5.2 innings. He struck out 10 batters and gave up five walks. Only one of Elkhart’s runs was earned.

Lakin broke open a 1-1 game in the third when they scored six runs.

The Broncs outhit the Wildcats 5-3.

McCormick had a double for Lakin’s lone extra-base hit.

McCormick, Armando Salcido and Enrique Ortega all had two runs batted in.

Lakin had seven stolen bases, with Patterson stealing three.

Salcido got the start, going the first two innings. Patterson struck out four batters and Bemis three in relief.
