Softball sweeps Heights

The softball team picked up two more wins Tuesday at Southwestern Heights, 10-7 and 13-6, improving to 3-1 for the season.

In the first game, Lakin led 7-6, then scored three more in the sixth to seal the win.

The Broncs outhit the Mustangs 7-5, led by Lileah Villa’s two hits and Brianna Holmes’ three runs batted in.

Lakin had 18 stolen bases, with Villa picking up six of those.

Moriah Ortiz got the win, pitching all seven innings, striking out nine and walking seven.

In the second game, Lakin led 6-3 after two innings and 8-6 after four. They picked up three runs in the fifth and two more in the sixth to get the win.

Lakin outhit the Mustangs 13-9, with Villa picking up three more, including an inside-the-park homerun.

Emma Beltran, Villa and Taybree Lohman-Fuller each had a double.

Ortiz picked up the win, pitching the final three innings and going up no runs. The junior struck out three and walked two.

Cadence Brown got the start, going four innings, striking out three and walking two.

The Broncs moved to 3-1 for the season.
