Broncs win regular season closer

The boys basketball team clinched a 16-4 regular season record with an 80-49 win over Wichita County at home Tuesday on senior recognition night.


The Broncs hit 13 of 20 shots (65 percent) in the first quarter to jump to a 29-15 lead after one period.


They increased that to 55-28 by halftime.


Lakin converted 45 percent from the floor, including 28 of 50 from inside the arc.


The Broncs caused 27 turnovers, leading to 31 points, while committing just 16 miscues.


Lakin also dominated the boards, 46-29.


Austin Ritsema led the Broncs with 15 points. Adrik Gomez-Esquibel, MJ Gonzales and Colter Oldham all had 14.


Junior Lopez came off the bench in the final quarter and hit a 3-pointer from the left side, his first varsity points.


Ritsema led the team with 12 rebounds. Gonzales had six steals and Noah Garcia had five assists.
