Girls win fourth straight

The Lakin girls won their fourth straight game Friday with a 46-33 win at Elkhart.


The Broncs improved to 12-5 with the win.


After jumping to a 7-4 early lead, Lakin trailed 9-8 late in the opening period. A 5-2 run to close the quarter gave Lakin the lead they never relinquished.


The Broncs led 24-19 at halftime and used an 11-3 third period to take a 35-22 lead into the final quarter.


Lakin shot 30 percent from the floor (17 of 46 inside the arc), but Elkhart was just 9 of 43 from 2-point range (19 percent).


Lakin won the rebound battle 50-40, and both teams committed 24 turnovers. The Broncs made the most of the turnovers, outscoring the Wildcats 18-7.


Samantha Vogel and Aryn Michaelis each had 11 points to lead the Broncs. Jordan McCombs and Reagan Chavira both added seven.


Vogel had 13 rebounds and Michaelis 10. Chavira had four steals and five assists.
