Boys rebound with win

After a disappointing loss at home Tuesday against Scott City, the boys basketball team got back on track Friday with an 88-49 win at Elkhart.


Lakin took a 20-12 lead after one period despite making only six of 32 of their shot attempts. They led 44-26 by halftime. 


At one point in the second quarter, Elkhart tied the game at 23-all, but the Broncs closed the quarter on a 21-3 run.


A 29-13 third period sealed the win for the Broncs, who improved to 14-3 for the season.


Lakin converted 39 percent of their shots, which included 7 of 29 from 3-point range.


The Broncs converted 26 of 56 shots inside the arc, while the Wildcats were just 10 of 24.


The Lakin offense forced 30 Elkhart turnovers, which they converted into 39 points. 


Lakin dominated the boards, pulling down 51 rebounds to just 22 for Elkhart.


The Broncs also had 27 steals to just one for the Wildcats.


Eleven players scored for Lakin, with four in double figures. Austin Ritsema led with 19 points, while MJ Gonzales and Tyelor Holloway both had 14 and Dru Patterson 12.


Ritsema had 16 rebounds and Gonzales had seven.


Adrik Gomez-Esquibel had seven steals and seven assists to lead the team.
