Girls win over Scott City

By LHSports

For the second game in a row, the girls ended a losing streak against a non-league opponent.

Tuesday night, it was a dramatic 3-pointer from Jara Davidson in the waning seconds of the game that gave the Broncs a 41-38 win over Scott City.

The homecoming win ended an eight-game losing streak against the Beavers. The previous Friday, the girls ended a streak against Cimarron that dated back to 2006.

Davidson’s shot from in front of her bench with 1.4 seconds remaining to break a 38-all tie.

The win propelled the girls to an 11-5 record.

Lakin took control early, taking a 16-8 lead two minutes into the second period.

Scott City chipped away at the Lakin lead, though, tying the game at 28-all late in the third period.

The Broncs led 33-31 entering the final period, but Scott City regained the lead at 37-33 minutes into the fourth.

From there, it was all Broncs, who held the Beavers to just one free throw the rest of the game, the one that tied the game that led to Davidson’s final shot.

Lakin shot 46 percent from the floor and Scott City 41 percent. Both teams made 14 two-point goals and two 3-point shots.

The Broncs made three more free throws than the Beavers to account for the scoring difference, but it was Davidson’s shot that made this homecoming game dramatic.

Lakin won the rebound battle 30-25.

Samantha Vogel led three Broncs in double figures with 14 points. Aryn Michaelis had 13 and Davidson 11.

Davidson had six rebounds and Reagan Chavira had five steals. Five girls had two assists each.
