Boys take down Mustangs

The Broncs overcame a late first quarter deficit, turning up the heat on Tuesday at home to take out Southwestern Heights 82-59 to move to 12-2 for the season.


Down 18-17 late in the first quarter, the Broncs rallied in the second to take a 37-25 halftime lead.


Lakin’s 27-16 third period eventually led to a lead as large as 27 points in the fourth period.


The Broncs shot over 46 percent from the floor, including 29 of 52 inside the arc, while the Mustangs shot 17 of 33 from two-point range but just 2 of 10 outside the arc.


Lakin’s defense forced 31 Mustang turnovers (the Broncs committed just 13), leading to a 26-5 edge on points off turnovers.


The Broncs held a 34-30 edge on rebounds.


Colter Oldham led all scorers with 34 points. Austin Ritsema had 17 and Adrik Gomez-Esquibel had 10.


Gomez-Esquibel dished out 11 assists, and Ritsema had nine rebounds.
