Robles 1st, Granado 2nd in wrestling opener

The varsity wrestling squad opened the season Saturday in Wakeeney at the Christmas City Wrestling Classic.

Alex Robles placed first and Javion Granado second to lead the team.

Robles went 3-0 at 138 pounds. He won his quarterfinal match by fall (1:12) and his semifinal by decision (11-4).

The sophomore defeated Blake Buresh of Phillipsburg 5-3 for the title.

Granado won his first match by fall (3:38) and won his semifinal. The senior lost to Dayton Stephen of Hill City by a 14-2 major decision.

Zael Bermudez placed fourth at 106 pounds, winning matches by fall and major decision and losing two matches by fall.

Alex Luce went 1-2 at 126, getting his win by fall.

Jesse Lancaster went 0-2 at 132 pounds.

Timmy Johnson went 2-2 at 175 pounds with both wins by fall.

The boys will be back in action Saturday at Ulysses.
